So, I set up a challenge for myself: Can one stat block represent enough data for several popular systems that the creature could effectively be used in combat? In other words, could all the necessary stats and information be condensed into one stat block?
Here’s what I’ve come up with, focused on the systems most useful for a post-apocalyptic setting:
| Mutant Lizard Scout Level 3 |
D&D/Gamma World 4E |
Savage Worlds |
FATE | Apocalypse World |
|
|
|
|||||
| Strength | 13 (+1) | d6 | +0 | 1 | Weird |
| Dexterity/Agility | 17 (+3) | d8 | +1 | 1 | Hard |
| Constitution/Vigor | 13 (+1) | d6 | +0 | 0 | Cool |
| Intelligence/Spirit | 10 (+0) | d6 | +0 | 0 | Sharp |
| Wisdom/Smarts/Will | 10 (+0) | d6 | +0 | 0 | Hot |
| Charisma/Per | 10 (+0) | d6 | +0 | ||
| Speed/Pace | 6 | 6 | |||
| Initiative | +3 | ||||
| HP/Toughness/Health | 24 [12] | 6 | 5 | ||
| AC/Parry | 15 | 5 | +1 | 1 | |
| ♣ Dagger (at-will) Attack …damage |
+6 vs. AC 1d10+3 |
d6+3 | +1 | 3 | |
| ♣ Sling (at-will) Attack …damage |
R15, +8 vs. AC 1d8+4 |
R12/24/48 2d6 |
+1 | 3 | |
| ♥ Perception/Observation | +5 | d8 | +1 | ||
| D&D/Gamma World | Fortitude 13 Reflex 14 Will 13 | ||||
| FATE Aspects | Primitive Savage (1) | ||||
A few notes:
- Apocalypse World attributes aren’t equivalent to D&D‘s, so they’re listed separately.
- Combat-related rows are colored differently, to make them a little easier to see.
- Rows that start with ♣ are attacks; rows that start with ♥ are skills.
- Any elements specific to one system are listed in their own rows at the bottom of the stat block.
If you want to use this stat block yourself, or modify it for your own uses, go ahead.

This is a nice, clean 5-way stat block. We’ve been considering something along slightly similar lines for some of the classic/retro-clone systems. Might help make converting things over to other editions/systems a lot easier down the road…
